HOW MUCH WEIGHT DO I NEED TO LOSE?

In order to become healthier as an obese individual, weight loss and increased activity are essential. The Body Mass Index(BMI) measures your height/weight ratio. This will be used to determine your risk for disease and premature death.

People with a BMI between 19 and 22 live longest. Death rates noticeably higher for people with indexes of 27 and above.

A BMI from 20 through 26 is desirable for most adults. In this category, you can avoid weight gain by eating moderately and exercising.

A BMI of 30 or more is truly overweight. The risk of developing heart disease and other weight related medical conditions rises sharply. Diabetic patients in this category who lose weight will have much better control of their glucose (sugar) levels.

A BMI of 40 or more is severely overweight. You are in danger of dying early. 80% of obese people in this category eat in frequent binges. Secert eating is also very common. (Buying cookies and hiding them just for yourself.

The number on the scale is not as important as how you feel. Younger individuals look and feel better at lower weights than middle age and adults. Even though we will be tracing your weight loss progress using a weight scale, our main goal is to help you develop and mainatin a healthier lifestyle and eating habits. We will do this by tracking your BMI.
