The Lipid Clinic at the Hazard Clinic is a specialized medical
clinic that helps patients manage abnormal lipid levels. The Lipid Clinic's focus is
to educate and empower individuals by managing cholesterol and other cardiovascular risk
factors. Studies have shown by reducing the controllable risk factors, there is a
reduction in premature cardiovascular disease.
Our lipid management program educates patients in risk management
through diet and exercise instruction as well as lifestyle modification. Diet and
exercise are the first line defenses against undesirable lipid levels. Changes in
your diet, along with exercise, can reduce your blood cholesterol by up to 15%.
However, some patients have genetically determined lipid problems that require
medication. Many variables affect the type of medication used. These include
your risk factors, your age, your current health and the drug's side effects.
WHAT
TO EXPECT WHEN YOU VISIT THE LIPID CLINIC:
On your first visit, we will draw blood to
determine your lipid levels. Our lipid professionals will counsel you in diet and
exercise and help you gain an understanding of how you can help change your levels.
Follow up visits will be scheduled on a regular basis to monitor your levels and any side
effects if you are placed on medication.
What do those numbers mean when you have a blood
test?
